Free drop-in paper weaving workshop led by artist and photographer Nilupa Yasmin, part of the BEDLAM Arts & Mental Health festival.
Nilupa Yasmin is leading a paper weaving workshop at the Midlands Arts Centre on Saturday 7 November, from 1pm to 3pm. It's part of BEDLAM, the Arts & Mental Health Partnership, which brings together artists, practitioners, communities and mental health professionals to look at the relationship between creativity and mental health. This year's festival focuses on artist wellbeing, asking how making can support resilience and connection, and creating a space for dialogue and collaboration across the arts and health sectors.
Yasmin is an award-winning artist and educator whose practice is primarily lens-based, drawing on her British Bangladeshi culture and heritage and on socially engaged photography. She's a lecturer in photography at Coventry University and a studio holder at Grand Union here in Birmingham, and her work is held in collections including the Government Art Collection, The New Art Gallery Walsall and Birmingham Museums Collection. This session moves away from the camera and into weaving, so it's a good chance to see a different side of her practice.

The workshop runs in the Terrace Gallery at MAC, and it's free and drop-in, so you don't need to book ahead. It's offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is available while stocks last, which is worth keeping in mind if you're planning to turn up closer to the end of the session. It runs for two hours, from 1pm to 3pm, on Saturday 7 November.
