A guided tour of Matthew Boulton's historic house, exploring the rooms where he lived and met the Lunar Society, tracing the origins of the Industrial Revolution in Birmingham.
Soho House is opening its doors for a guided tour on Friday 16 October, a rare chance to step inside the home of Matthew Boulton. Boulton was the Birmingham inventor, industrialist and toymaker whose work left a lasting mark on the city, and this is the house where it all started. The tour takes you through the rooms where he lived and where he met with the Lunar Society, tracing how 18th-century scientific discoveries changed the world and how a young Birmingham toy maker grew to sell what the world desired.
It's a house that doesn't usually open to the public, so it's being opened specially for the day. The tour lasts about an hour, and you'll be greeted at the front of the visitor centre before heading inside. One thing to keep in mind: the house isn't fully accessible, and the tour involves climbing stairs to the first floor. Car parking is very limited, so public transport is the better bet.

There are two slots on the day: 11:00am and 1:30pm. The 11:00am tour is already sold out, so the 1:30pm is the one to go for. Tickets are £5 per person for anyone aged 12 and over, and they're strictly pre-booked, with nothing available on the day, so you'll need to get yours sorted in advance. The house is at Soho House Museum, Soho Avenue, Handsworth, B18 5LB.
