Relaxed screening of the animated film 'The Smeds and the Smoos' for neurodiverse and sensory-sensitive audiences at the Ulster Museum, part of the Cinemagic Festival 2026.
The Smeds and the Smoos is screening at the Ulster Museum on Saturday 24 October, as part of the Cinemagic Festival 2026. It's a short one — 25 minutes — so it's an easy one to slot into a Saturday afternoon.
The story follows two young aliens from rival, warring families on a distant planet who fall in love and run away together. Their escape forces their feuding clans to unite and travel across space to bring them home. It's a classic Romeo and Juliet setup, just with aliens and a space trip instead of Verona.
This particular screening is a Relaxed Screening (RS), which means it's set up for neurodiverse audiences and anyone with sensory sensitivities. The house lights stay dimly lit rather than going completely dark, the sound volume is kept lower, and the seating capacity is limited. The usual cinema rules are relaxed too, so people can move around, make noise, and come and go as they please without any fuss. If you're taking kids who find a dark, quiet theatre a bit much, this is the one to go for.
