Screening of Damian McCarthy's Irish horror film 'Oh The Horror', starring Adam Scott, at the Black Box during the Belfast Film Festival.
Oh The Horror! is screening at QFT on Friday 31 October, just in time for Halloween. It's an accessible screening of the new Irish horror film by director Damian McCarthy, which runs for 108 minutes.
The story is set in a quaint Irish inn, where an arrogant American novelist, Ohm Bauman — played by Adam Scott — gets tangled up in local folk tales about a witch and the disturbing secrets of his own suppressed past. It's the kind of setup that works well for a horror: a stranger in a small town, old stories that turn out to be true, and a character who starts off thinking he's the smartest person in the room. The film is new, coming out in 2026, and it's given its own section at the festival.
McCarthy is also billed for a masterclass and a live commentary of his horror hit HOKUM with editor Brian Philip Davis. The two introduce the film and share behind-the-scenes stories and insight into their creative process, so if you're interested in how a horror film actually comes together, that's the part to keep an eye on. Between the new feature and the look back at HOKUM, there's a fair bit of McCarthy's work on display over the course of the festival.
