Dexys Midnight Runners, fronted by Kevin Rowland, play Ulster Hall in Belfast, presented by MCD & Shine.
Dexys Midnight Runners are playing Ulster Hall on Thursday 5 November, with Belfast DJ David Holmes on the bill. It's the band fronted by Kevin Rowland, who's been the one constant through all their different incarnations.
If you only know the one song, it's likely 'Come On Eileen', the global smash that put them on the map. But that's just one part of a long, shifting history. They burst out of Birmingham in the late seventies with a soul, folk and new wave sound that was hard to pin down, and they spent the next few years changing their sound and their image as much as they changed their line-ups. In the eighties, they put out three albums that worked both critically and commercially: Searching For The Young Soul Rebels in 1980, Too-Rye-Ay in 1982, and Don't Stand Me Down in 1985. Between them, they produced the number ones 'Geno' and 'Come On Eileen'.
They've toured under the Dexys name since a sold-out show at London's Southbank Centre in 2003, and Rowland has kept the name going with new albums since then. There was the 2012 comeback One Day I'm Going To Soar and 2023's The Feminine Divine, alongside his memoir Bless Me Father. So the set will draw from more than just the eighties records.
