NI Opera Chorus concert celebrating the music of opera, with soprano Lesley Garrett CBE as guest artist and compere.
The NI Opera Chorus are taking over Ulster Hall on Monday 16 November for CHORUS!, a concert built around the big operatic choruses that usually provide the backdrop to the lead roles. The night is led by soprano Lesley Garrett CBE, who'll be both compere and performer throughout the evening.
Garrett is one of Britain's best-known sopranos, with a career stretching over 40 years across opera, music theatre, concert, television and recording. She's released fourteen solo CDs and was a Principal Soprano at English National Opera from 1984. The NI Opera Chorus itself comes from open auditions in Belfast; singers spend six months in the company's Chorus Development Programme, and CHORUS! grew out of that work. Cameron Menzies, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of NI Opera, has called the chorus the lifeblood of the company.
The evening also brings back a particular connection: Garrett played Heidi Schiller in NI Opera's 2025 production of Sondheim's Follies at the Grand Opera House, and she'll reprise the composer's duet 'One More Kiss' with chorus alumna Petra Wells. Beside her on stage will be director Cameron Menzies and pianist Frasier Hickland.
