Masego

Masego plays ACL Live at The Moody Theater on Thursday, August 6, 2026. He's a Grammy-nominated saxophone player, singer, and DJ, and the night is billed as hip-hop and rhythm & blues.

If you're not familiar with him, Masego is a multi-instrumentalist who does a lot of the heavy lifting himself. He taught himself piano and saxophone, discovered the looper pedal on YouTube, and started writing his own music while in college. That looper is a big part of how he builds his sound live, layering parts on top of each other in real time. His debut album, Lady Lady, showed off that range, blending trap, Caribbean styles, and electric piano funk—the kind of record that sits comfortably alongside artists like Lucky Daye, SZA, Ari Lennox, and Smino.

There's a bit of a lineage to his style, too. He cites 1930s Harlem big-band leader Cab Calloway as a guiding spirit and was mentored by DJ Jazzy Jeff. You can see that jazz influence in the details: he often wears a gold saxophone pendant and has 'J-A-Z-Z' tattooed across his knuckles. He grew up nomadically with a Jamaican-American father and a Georgia-born mother, both pastors, and first encountered music in church.
