A Halloween-themed puppet show featuring spooky monsters and special effects, recommended for ages 4 and up.
Spookhouse Annie opens at the Center for Puppetry Arts on October 14 and runs through November 1. It's an original production that follows Annie, who lives in a haunted house, and her friend Dave, who's invited over for a playdate. Inside the Spookhouse they run into a cast of goofy Halloween monsters, from the cheerful witch Hagatha to Count Morlock, a vampire who mistakenly ended up in Pennsylvania instead of Transylvania.
The show runs about 60 minutes and is recommended for ages 4 and up. It leans on special effects like haze, black light and strobe lighting, and is supported in part by Forry Friend Rod Puppet. The ticket includes admission to the museum, so you can make a full afternoon of it.
The venue is the Center for Puppetry Arts at 1404 Spring St. NW, a nonprofit dedicated to puppetry through live performances, workshops and a museum that houses the Jim Henson Collection. It'll mark its 50th anniversary in 2028.
