Juried exhibition of portraits from photographers around the world, celebrating the art of portraiture at Atlanta Photography Group.
Portrait 2026 opens at the Atlanta Photography Group on November 10, running through December 11. It's a juried exhibition that brought together photographers from around the world, all working within the same tradition: the portrait. The call went out for compelling, thought-provoking work that celebrates the human figure and the stories it carries, and the final selection is a wide-ranging look at how different artists approach that one subject.
Alan K. Avery, president and owner of Alan Avery Art Company, juried the show. He leaned toward the intimate connections that bind us as human beings, with identity, emotion, psychology, and cultural diversity running through the work. Because it's a juried group show rather than a single artist's retrospective, you get to see how twenty-two different photographers tackle the same prompt—some focusing on the psychology of a single face, others on the cultural markers that shape a person.
The lineup includes Alex Ladd, Andrea London, Bryan Galgano, Calvin Tigre, Christina Howells, Christopher Jarrett, Colin Ward, Doug daSilva, Eliot Allen, Lauren Cole, Lisa Reisman, Marla Puziss, Meaghen Flynn, Mony Nation, Nathan Dean, Olive Norman, Richard Brodowski, Royce Soble, Sean Mayfield, Steve Traves, Tony King, and Wendy Garfinkel-Gold. With that many names on the wall, there's plenty to walk through slowly.

The venue itself is a piece of Atlanta's art history. The Atlanta Photography Group opened in 1981 as Trinity Gallery in a downtown warehouse on Trinity Avenue, then moved to the Buckhead district in 1991, where it's remained for more than four decades. Now the city's oldest sustained art gallery, it has represented artists like Robert Rauschenberg, Jim Dine, Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, Roy Lichtenstein, Kara Walker, and Romare Bearden. You can find the show at 1544 Piedmont Ave, Suite 107, Atlanta, GA 30324, open 10 AM to 4 PM daily from November 10 through December 11.
