Current natural history exhibitions, including 'The Secret World of Elephants' and the upcoming 'Winter Wonderland & 68 Voices', at Fernbank Museum of Natural History.
Fernbank Museum of Natural History is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, and it's a good time to visit if you've been putting it off. The museum is a nonprofit natural history museum, a giant screen theater, and an old-growth forest on 75 acres of WildWoods and Fernbank Forest in Atlanta—they describe it as the place where science, nature and fun make history. One film in the Giant Screen Theater is included with general admission, and the theater itself is a four-story screen showing 25- and 45-minute immersive documentaries. The grounds have walking trails, a canopy walk, native wildlife and nature playgrounds that stay open year-round.
If you're going soon, there are two limited-time exhibits to keep in mind. The Secret World of Elephants runs through January 3, 2027. Winter Wonderland & 68 Voices opens November 21, 2026, and runs through January 12, 2027; it draws on an indigenous community rich in traditions, with the series narrated in 68 Mexican indigenous languages. Between the two, you've got a window that stretches well into the new year.
The museum also runs a steady calendar of programs. On Thursday, October 29, there's a Live Animal Encounter from 2:00 to 2:30 PM. Friday, October 30, is Fright Night, a Museum Night for ages 21 and over from 7:00 to 11:00 PM. Saturday, October 31, brings Meet a Ranger from 11:30 AM to noon. In November, you'll find Story Time on Wednesday the 4th from 11:30 to 11:50 AM, Sensory Morning on Saturday the 7th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, and an Introduction to Birding Workshop that same day from 10:30 AM to noon. Sunday, November 8, has a Morning Hike from 9:00 to 11:00 AM and a Dino Talk from 2:00 to 2:30 PM. Friday, November 13, is Fernbank After Dark: Amazing Animals from 7:00 to 11:00 PM, and Saturday, November 14, is Adventures in Science from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
