Three-day workshop on large-format 4×5 view camera fundamentals taught by Mark Schoon, with cameras provided.
Atlanta Photography Group is hosting a 4x5 View Camera Workshop this November, a three-day course that takes you through the fundamentals of large-format photography. It runs on Saturday mornings—November 7, 14, and 21—from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM ET, so you're in and out by lunch each week. The sessions are held at the APG Gallery, inside the Atlanta Photography Group in Atlanta.
Mark Schoon is teaching the course. He's an artist and educator based here in Atlanta and a Professor of Art at the University of West Georgia, where he's taught for the last 15 years. His work is in the permanent collections of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, the University of North Dakota, and the University of Alabama. He holds a BA in television production from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and an MFA in Photography from Ohio University, and he spent time working in New York City, Austin, and Singapore before settling in Georgia.
Over the three Saturdays, the workshop covers 4x5 view camera fundamentals. If you don't own one, you don't need to worry—4x5 cameras are provided for the course. It's geared toward photographers who already have some experience, though beginners are welcome to join in. Between the three sessions, you'll get a good handle on the mechanics and the process of working with a large-format camera.
