A 60-minute puppet show by Hunter Marionettes about a penguin scientist who crash-lands in the jungle, with audience participation, recommended for ages 4 and up.
Hunter Marionettes bring Penguin in My Pocket to the Center for Puppetry Arts from March 10 to 21, 2027. It's a puppet show about a penguin scientist who crash-lands in the jungle after her experimental jetpack fails. Stranded and far from home, she teams up with an artistic monkey to find her way back, and they even cross paths with a sea monster along the way. The story leans on audience participation to make its point about the role of imagination in both art and science.
Hunter Marionettes are known for that kind of participatory puppetry, so you'll be doing more than just watching from your seat. The show runs 60 minutes and is recommended for ages 4 and up, which makes it a good pick for families with younger kids. Museum admission is included with your ticket, so you can spend some time with the rest of the building before or after the performance.
That building is worth the detour. The Center for Puppetry Arts is the largest nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated solely to puppetry, and it's home to the Jim Henson Collection and more than 4,000 puppets. It's celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2028 and was named one of Smithsonian Magazine's 250 Places to Celebrate America—one of only three Georgia sites to make the list.
