Day camp for children aged 7 to 10 to explore the garden's edible plants and bake fall treats like focaccia, apple cinnamon muffins and scones.
Fabulous Fall Treats Day Camp runs Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, part of their fall and winter break programs for kids aged 5 to 12. This one is for the 7-to-10 crowd: they put on an apron and spend the two days exploring the Garden's edible plants before mixing, measuring and baking treats of their own. Each day they harvest ingredients or look into where food comes from to make a morning and an afternoon snack, like homemade focaccia, apple cinnamon muffins, fresh scones and homemade fig jam.
It's a nut-free camp run out of the Mershon Hall Children's Classroom, so it's a safe spot for kids with allergies. The groups stay smallโno more than 12 campers and two teachers, with three or four volunteers and a chef on hand for the cooking. Between the garden walks and the baking, the kids get to see the whole process from plant to plate, and they leave with something they actually made themselves.

The camp runs from 9 AM to 4 PM both days, so it's a full day's activity. It costs $170 per child, or $150 for members. Registration closes November 8, so you'll want to get your spot in a few weeks before it starts. You can find it at the Mershon Hall Children's Classroom, 1345 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.
