Free student-led tour of the University of Aberdeen's Zoology Museum, with taxidermy, skeletons and preserved specimens.
The Zoology Museum is running a free guided tour on Wednesday 21 October, from 12:00 to 12:45. It's a short one — 45 minutes — and it's led by students from the Zoology and Biological Sciences Society, with the University Collections team on hand to support them.
If you've never been in, the museum's displays are worldwide in scope, and they cover a fair bit of ground. You'll find everything from sea sponges to great whales, and from mice and voles to the Indian elephant and the giant Japanese spider crab. The collection is made up of taxidermy, skeletons, fluid-preserved specimens and models, so there's a good mix of how things are kept on show. It's the kind of place where you can see a tiny sponge and a whole whale in the same room.

Entry is free for everyone. To guarantee a place, it's best to book online, though you're welcome to drop in on the day; if the tour is full, a self-guided visit is still possible. Group tours are also free, and donations are welcome. The museum itself stays open from 10:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday, so if you can't make the tour, you can still wander through on your own. The tour runs from 12:00 to 12:45 on Wednesday 21 October at the Zoology Museum, University of Aberdeen.
