Guided tour of the backrooms at Aberdeen Treasure Hub with the lights dimmed and spooky stories behind the collection, run by Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums.
Aberdeen Treasure Hub is opening its backrooms for a special Halloween tour on Wednesday 28 October, run by Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums. It's an extended guided walk through the museum's storage areas, with the lights dimmed to a low level so the collection and the building itself come up in a more eerie light. Along the way, the guide shares the spooky stories behind the wide-ranging store of artworks and objects held there.
If you've spent time at the Treasure Hub before, you'll know it's where the city's art and museum collections are kept, but this is a look at the parts that don't usually make it onto the gallery walls. The dimmed lighting changes the feel of the place, and the focus is on the stories that come out of the dark rather than the bright lights of a standard exhibition. It's an hour-long walk, and the whole thing is run by the same team that looks after the collections every other day of the year.
There's a bit of a heads-up on who this is for: the organisers describe it as being aimed at art lovers, collectors and exhibition enthusiasts rather than those who prefer the brights. They're also clear that it isn't suitable for people who are afraid of the dark or liminal spaces, so it's worth keeping that in mind before you book. If you're comfortable with that, it's a chance to see the backrooms of the city's stores in a way they're almost never shown.
