Student-led Halloween special tour of the University of Aberdeen's Zoology Museum about spiders and bats.
The Zoology Museum is running a Halloween special on Wednesday 28 October, from 12:00 to 12:45. It's a 45-minute tour that swaps the usual student-led walk for something a bit more focused: spiders and bats. Both get a bad press this time of year, and the tour is built around that, setting out the zoological facts behind the fear and fascination they stir up.
One of the things that makes the Zoology Museum what it is is that it's run by students. The tours are devised and led by them too, with support from the University Collections team. Your guide might be someone who's given dozens of tours, or someone giving their first, so there's a bit of a lottery there. This Halloween special is framed as something different from the regular student-led walk, and it's a good way to see the collection through a specific lens.
If you're planning to go, booking online guarantees your place. You can also just drop in, provided you're at the Zoology Building foyer five minutes before the tour starts. If the tour is full, there's still a free self-guided visit to the museum, which is open 10:00-16:00 Monday to Friday with free entry. Group tours can be arranged at no charge, and donations are welcome.
