Solo show in which singer-songwriter Tom McRae plays his guitar and tells stories from his ten albums, from Just Like Blood to Étrange Hiver.
Tom McRae plays The Lemon Tree on Thursday 29 October, his first Aberdeen date in a while. He's touring a solo show this autumn, following a sell-out full-band tour that marked twenty-five years since his debut album. This one is just him on stage with a guitar, an evening of live music and storytelling that moves between the beloved and the overlooked, delivered with the wit and honesty that's made him one of Britain's most enduring singer-songwriters.
The set draws from the full breadth of his catalogue. His critically acclaimed debut earned him Mercury Prize, Q Award and BRIT Award nominations for Best Newcomer, and in the quarter century since he's released ten albums, from Just Like Blood and The Alphabet of Hurricanes to his most recent record, Étrange Hiver, all while resisting the fashions that might have made him more famous. The show runs about two hours, including an interval, and reaches across that whole body of work rather than sticking to one era.
It's a solo affair, so the storytelling sits alongside the songs. He's described the night as moving between the beloved and the overlooked, and with just him and his guitar, the songs take centre stage. It's a career-spanning look back, with the early material and the newer records sharing the same bill.
