Community talk with expert and autistic speakers on how families, professionals and communities can support the mental and emotional wellbeing of autistic children and young people.
Thrive Talks is coming to The Lemon Tree on Tuesday 3 November, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This one focuses on the mental and emotional wellbeing of autistic children and young people, and it's part of a wider series of community learning events that bring together autistic people, their families, professionals, educators, and social care and healthcare staff. The whole thing is built around keeping the autistic voice at the heart of every session.
The talk looks at how families, professionals, and communities can support positive wellbeing through understanding, acceptance, and neuro-affirming practice, drawing on both professional expertise and lived experience. Jackie Cassels, a Senior Community Advisor at Fife One Stop Shop, draws on her role and the Fife One Stop Shop Family Flourish Service to share strategies for supporting emotional, social, and sensory needs. Beside her is Dr Aimee Fletcher, a Participation Coordinator who is openly autistic and was diagnosed in childhood; she shares her own experiences of navigating mental wellbeing, resilience, and finding joy as an autistic young person.
It's not just the talk itself, either. There will be stands from the Community Advice Service, Autism Neurodiversity North Scotland, and Elevate, Autism Training and Consultancy, so there's more to pick up and chat about than just what happens on stage. Refreshments are provided, which is always a welcome addition to a morning session.
