Free roundtable chaired by composer Pete Stollery with a panel of composers on what it means to listen, part of soundFestival 2026.
Pete Stollery chairs a roundtable on listening at Seabury House on Saturday 31 October, from 10:30 to 11:30am. He's joined by a panel of composers — Claudia Molitor, Maja Zećo, James Weeks and Suk-Jun Kim — to talk about what it actually means to listen.
The session frames listening as a creative, social and environmental practice rather than just something that happens to you. Stollery's invitation is to consider what it means to really listen, not only as listeners but also as performers and composers. It's a conversation that treats listening as something you do, something you can be conscious of, and something that changes depending on where you're sitting in the room.
The roundtable is part of soundFestival 2026, which runs from 22 to 31 October across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Over those ten days, there are more than 30 concerts, recitals, workshops, installations and events, with a strong emphasis on local and emerging Scottish talent. The festival works its way from concert halls into some unexpected spaces, including a former nuclear bunker, and mixes performances with soundwalks, installations and talks.
