Des Dillon's play about a Celtic fan and a Rangers fan in a police cell, with commentary from Old Firm legends, followed by a Q&A.
Singin' I'm No a Billy, He's a Tim And The Old Firm Legends comes to The Tivoli Theatre on Friday 13 November, starting at 7:00pm. It's the latest version of Des Dillon's award-winning play, returning as Billy & Tim - The Widescreen Edition, which the production describes as bigger and better than ever.
The story is a simple one that gets complicated fast: a Celtic fan and a Rangers fan are locked in a police cell on the day of an Old Firm match. Then football legends Simon Donnelly and Charlie Miller are thrown in with them. From there, it's billed as an explosive, hilarious and thought-provoking look at bigotry, identity and division. While the football rivalry is the starting point, it goes beyond the pitch to look at sectarianism and prejudice, framing generational hate as an allegory for things that reach far past the game.
There's a fair bit of footballing history on stage for this one. Alongside Dillon's writing, the show features Old Firm legends David Robertson, Jackie McNamara, Charlie Miller and Simon Donnelly. Broadcasting icons Rob Maclean and David Tanner provide the commentary, and Hawaii Fivo voices the other prisoners. The evening doesn't end when the curtain falls, either — there's a Q&A session to follow.
