Scott Kyle's live show and memoir, blending storytelling, photographs, film and animation, about his journey from being a child in care to becoming a foster carer.
Scott Kyle brings his live show and memoir, It's Not Where You Start, to The Tivoli Theatre on Wednesday 10 November, starting at 7:30pm. It's a personal one: Kyle spent his childhood in Scotland's care system, known there as Child 305106. He grew up in Glasgow amid poverty, violence, sectarianism and foster care, left school as a dropout, and later became a university graduate and a foster carer himself. The show traces that whole journey, from being a child in care to caring for children.
Along the way, he draws on a career that's taken him across stage and screen, with roles in Outlander, Kajaki and The Angels' Share. He also talks about the rise, fall and return of the Scottish theatre phenomenon Singin' I'm No a Billy, He's a Tim, and a near-miss with Hollywood icon Harrison Ford. It's not just a stand-up set; he blends intimate storytelling with photographs, film and animation, and the production has picked up two Best Animation and two Best Voice Over awards at the West Lothian Film Festival in 2024 and 2025.
