God's Honest Lies

Gaudeamus Theatre Company bring God's Honest Lies to the Aberdeen Arts Centre on Saturday 27th February 2027. It's comedy theatre performed in Italian with live English surtitles, so you'll follow every word without needing to know the language yourself. The company describes it as bringing the wit, musicality and Neapolitan soul of Eduardo De Filippo to the stage.

God's Honest Lies is inspired by De Filippo's Le Bugie con le Gambe Lunghe, and it follows Gaudeamus's previous productions Poor Piero and High Heels from the Big Boot. The story is set in the immediate post-war period and centres on Libero Incoronato, an ordinary man caught in a world where appearances matter more than honesty. The staging keeps De Filippo's blend of humour, irony and social criticism, but adds a new prologue and epilogue that connect the original play to our own time.

If you've followed Gaudeamus's work, this is the next piece in the sequence. It's a Neapolitan comedy at its heart, and the surtitles mean you can lean into the language and the performance without losing the thread. Tickets are £21.56 standard and £19.40 concession, both including the booking fee.
