Play by Centre Stage Theatre Company about the coal community of Fraterville in the Great Smoky Mountains, exploring grief, family and the cost of industry.
Centre Stage Theatre Company are bringing For One More Breath to the Arts Lecture Theatre on Saturday 20 November. It's a theatre piece based on the true story of Fraterville, an Appalachian coal community in Tennessee that existed around 1902, and it's being staged at the Aberdeen Students' Union.
The play is set beneath the earth and in the hollers of the Great Smoky Mountains, following two families forced to come to terms with a tragedy that devastates their entire community. It's a story about grief, family and love, but it doesn't stop there — it also looks at women's unpaid labour and the dark price of industry. The focus on Fraterville, a real place in the Appalachian mountains, gives it a specific sense of time and place, and the tragedy it centres on is one that ripples through the whole community rather than just a few individuals.
