York Printmakers Annual Print Fair

York Printmakers are back at York Cemetery this September for their annual print fair, taking over The Chapel and Harriet Room on Cemetery Road. It's a one-weekend-only thing, and if you've been before, you'll know the drill: a fair's worth of prints on the walls and the artists themselves there to talk you through them.

York Printmakers is a group that pulls from both ends of the experience curve, with members ranging from art students to professional artists exhibiting across Yorkshire and beyond. The fair celebrates handmade printmaking processes—linocuts, collagraphs, monoprints, wood engravings, etchings and screen printing—the kind of work that demands pressure, patience and a willingness to relinquish control, and that stands in contrast to the speed of digital reproduction. You can buy work directly from the artists on the day, and the group also puts on workshops for anyone who'd rather make prints than just look at them.

The venue is part of the draw. York Cemetery is a place of extraordinary architectural, natural and social history, and the group has a habit of taking over unusual city spaces: they were here in 2017, 2018 and 2019, before moving to Pyramid Gallery in 2020 and Blossom Street Gallery in 2023. This brings them back to the cemetery for the first time in seven years.

Entry is free, and it runs from 10am to 5pm throughout the weekend. The Chapel and Harriet Room are at York Cemetery, Cemetery Rd, York YO10 5AJ.
