The King's Singers: Such stuff as dreams are made on

The King's Singers are playing the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall at Campus West, University of York, on Wednesday 5 May 2027. It's their first time performing in York, so it's a bit of a milestone for them as much as for us.

The programme is called Such stuff as dreams are made on, and it's built around the great Romantic vocal music of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They'll be drawing on composers like Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Hugo Alfvén, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Franz Schubert, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Camille Saint-Saëns. It's a broad sweep of that era, with the French impressionists sitting alongside the English Romantics and the German classics.

On stage, you'll find six voices: countertenors Peter Hicks and Edward Button, tenor Julian Gregory, baritone Joseph Edwards, baritone Nick Ashby and bass Piers Connor Kennedy. They've been singing a cappella for over 55 years, and their discography has picked up two Grammy Awards, an Emmy, and a place in Gramophone's inaugural Hall of Fame. They're known for their technique and versatility, and this programme lets them stretch across a wide range of Romantic styles.

Tickets are £10 to £35, and booking is required. The concert starts at 7.30pm at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, Campus West, University of York.
