The Yorkshire Bach Choir performs Bach's Mass in B minor, his ultimate masterpiece, accompanied by the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists.
Yorkshire Bach Choir are performing Bach's Mass in B minor at Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall on Saturday 5 December, starting at 7pm. The venue is part of Campus West at the University of York in Heslington, YO10 5DB. The concert is presented in association with the York Early Music Christmas Festival and the Yorkshire Bach Choir.
Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232, is widely regarded as his ultimate masterpiece. He completed it in the final year of his life, and it weaves together a lifetime of his cantata settings into a narrative of faith and human emotion. The performance pairs a line-up of vocal soloists with the period-style agility of the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, with the whole thing conducted by Peter Seymour.
On the solo front, Bethany Seymour takes the soprano part, Robin Blaze the alto, Jonathan Hanley the tenor, and Stuart O'Hara the bass. They're joined by the Yorkshire Bach Choir and the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists. The choir's own recording of the Mass was called 'exhilarating' by BBC Music Magazine, which ranked it among the best.
