A choral concert series combining well-known classics with niche gems, conducted by Robert Hollingworth and performed by Part Trois.
Part Trois are back with another instalment of The 24, running at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall on Saturday 21 November. It's a choral concert series that describes its programmes as 'a box of choral delights' — a name taken from one of the sweetmeats in a Monty Python chocolate box sketch. That's the trademark of the whole thing: pairing well-known choral classics with truly niche gems drawn from across the centuries, all served up in a single evening.
This particular box is conducted by Robert Hollingworth, and the line-up of soloists is a good one. Jenny McLeod takes on Howells' The Scribe; Nils Lindberg's Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day is handled by Joanna Marsh; and Stef Conner sings Lyke Wake Dirge. It's a programme that pulls from different eras and styles, and the mix of names should give you a fair idea of the range of voices you'll hear over the course of the night.
There's a bit of a tradition to the series, too. The 'box of delights' isn't just a tagline; it's the way they build every concert, mixing the familiar with the obscure. This one is billed as in-person only, so there's no stream to fall back on if you can't make it to Heslington on the night.
