Stand-up comedy show Tall Tales by Susan Calman at the Grand Opera House, a one-night-only performance.
Susan Calman brings her new show Tall Tales to the Grand Opera House on Thursday 11 February 2027. It's a one-night-only date in York, part of her first tour in ten years, which kicks off across the UK from October 2026. If you've seen her on TV, you know the name, but it's been a decade since she last took a full show on the road.
Tall Tales is brand-new material that pulls from a wide range of ground. It covers cruising and driving tanks, cats and getting older, and everything in between. It's a stand-up set rather than a curated collection of stories, and since it's her first tour in ten years, it's the first time she's been back on the circuit with a fresh show.
Most of us know her from the screen. She's a regular on Grand Day Out, Cruising with Susan Calman, QI and House of Games, and she spent some time on Strictly Come Dancing a while back. Before that, she left a high-flying career in corporate law to move into professional comedy. And if you've only ever seen her on TV, it's worth knowing that on stage she's much shorter than people expect.

The Grand Opera House itself has a bit of a history. It wasn't originally intended to be a theatre; it opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford, was later owned by FJ Butterworth, the Shepherd of Shambles, and the India Pru Co. Ltd spent £4,000,000 restoring it in 1987. The show starts at 19:30 and runs for about two hours, including an interval. It's a one-night-only date, so if you want to see it, this is the only time it'll be in York.
