A theatrical equestrian show combining traditional Iberian horsemanship with modern theatre, fire stunts, and music, celebrating the Year of the Horse.
Steelehorse are bringing their Spectacle of Equitation to Carlton Towers Estate on Saturday 15 August, a day celebrating the Year of the Horse. Steelehorse – Understanding Horsemanship is the outfit behind it, and they describe their work as being about the connection between horse and human, built on ethical training, trust and communication. The show itself is a mix of heroic storytelling, horsemanship, fire stunts, music and theatrical spectacle, with a charismatic narrator guiding the audience and encouraging them to get involved – cheering the heroes and booing the villains.

The performances blend traditional Iberian horsemanship with modern theatre. You'll see high school movements both under saddle and in hand, riding without a bridle and bareback, horses and dancers moving in sync, fire artists, military formations, traditional garrocha and classical moves like kneeling and lying down. Each act features four to six horses and runs for about half an hour, with two performances scheduled during the day.
If you're bringing kids, there's a 'Have a Go' Hobby Horse Arena run by Hobby Horse Adventures, an interactive space where they can gallop, jump and play. It's set up as a family day out, and dogs are welcome as long as they stay on a lead.
It's a paid event: £17.50 for adults (12+), £5.00 for children (3-12), free for under-threes, and a £45.00 family ticket for two adults and three children. The day runs from 10:00 to 16:00, with the two main shows spaced out across those hours.
