The York Food & Drink Festival is back from 18 to 27 September, with the main hub set up across Parliament Street and Shambles Market. It's a city-wide celebration of Yorkshire's producers, chefs and culinary culture, and it runs for ten days, so you've plenty of time to work your way through it rather than trying to cram everything into one afternoon.
The heart of the festival is the market, where you'll find pop-up bars serving craft beer and wine alongside a good range of street food. Beyond the stalls, there are chef demonstrations, tastings and cookery lessons, including free sessions at the Festival Cookery School. The whole thing spills out across the city with the Taste Trail and the Ale Trail, and local restaurants and professionals host special evening dinners and wine-tasting events throughout the festival.
There's a strong nod to York's chocolate heritage here, too. The festival honours the legacy of brands like Terrys and Rowntree with demonstrations by local chocolatiers, and it sits close to The York Chocolate Story, which celebrates the city's confectionery history. Live music runs alongside the food and drink, so it's as much about hanging out as it is about eating.
