Kenny Thomas: 35 Years of Voices

Kenny Thomas plays the Grand Opera House on Saturday 28 August, part of his 35 Years of Voices tour. He's often called the 'King of British Soul', and the tour title marks 35 years since his debut album, Voices, came out in 1991 on Chrysalis Records.

That first record was a big one: it sold over a million copies worldwide and went double platinum in the UK in just two weeks. It gave him the number 5 hit 'Thinking About Your Love', and he's built a career on that kind of ground. Over three decades, he's put two albums in the Top 10 and eight singles in the Top 40, and in the early nineties he was a regular on Top of the Pops, appearing nine times in less than three years.

He's spent a good deal of that time on the road, too. He's sold out three UK tours, with a recent date at the London Palladium among them, so this York stop is part of a long run of live shows. The 35 Years of Voices tour is built around that debut album, so you can expect to hear the songs from Voices alongside the other singles and album tracks that have come since.
