Stand-up comedy show from Alex Kealy, known for his work with Jack Dee and the Gig Pigs podcast.
Alex Kealy is playing Theatre@41 on Friday 2 October. He's a stand-up comedian whose hour of comedy The Telegraph described as 'sharply witty, almost sexily cerebral', and he's spent the last few years building a name for himself on the circuit. If you're not yet familiar, he's toured as support for Jack Dee and Shaparak Khorsandi, and you might recognise his voice from BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz.
He also co-hosts the Gig Pigs podcast with Ivo Graham, so he's as much a part of the comedy conversation as he is a performer on stage. The reviews for his work have been strong: BroadwayBaby.com called it a 'career-defining show', and the Sunday Times described it as a 'storming show from the whimsical funnyman'. The Edinburgh Evening News even listed him among 'Five Comedians to See If You Like James Acaster', which gives you a fair idea of where he sits — sharp, observational, and with a bit of a whimsical streak to it. Film critic Mark Kermode singled out one particular bit, calling it an 'excellent... dynamite Interstellar routine'.

It's a full hour of stand-up, so you'll get the whole show rather than a short set. If you've got a soft spot for the kind of comedy that's as much about the writing as the delivery, this is one to keep on your radar. The date is Friday 2 October at Theatre@41 in York.
