Intimate omakase tasting menu with chef JL Johnston and wine and sake pairings at the modern Asian restaurant RO Hyde Park.
RO Hyde Park is hosting an omakase dinner on Tuesday, October 27, with seatings at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM. The evening is run by Executive Sushi Chef JL Johnston and Director of Wine and Sommelier Peter Rusted, who handle the food and the drinks, respectively.
Omakase literally means "I leave it up to you," and that's exactly how it works here. Instead of ordering from a menu, you sit at the sushi bar and let the chef decide what you're eating. The meal is built around the day's finest selections, moving from delicate seafood to luxurious wagyu and finishing with refined desserts. Each course is paired with a wine, a premium sake, or a crafted cocktail, so the drinks are as considered as the food. The experience is rooted in omotenashi, the Japanese philosophy of wholehearted hospitality—an intimate, chef-forward tasting rather than a standard dinner.
RO is a modern Asian fine-dining spot in Hyde Park, built around a sushi bar where the chefs work with premium fish flown in from Tokyo's Toyosu Market, the successor to the legendary Tsukiji. It's not just omakase, though; the restaurant is also known for a tableside smoked Peking duck aged for three days, a weekend brunch, a weekday sushi lunch bento box, and a sushi happy hour.
