Afternoon yoga lab led by Katie Beene exploring Gomukhasana and Ardha Matsyendrasana, with anatomy, alignment, sequencing, pranayama and meditation.
Katie Beene is leading an Asana Lab at the Lotus Pond Center for Yoga and Health on Saturday, January 9, 2027, from 12:30 to 4:30 PM. The session focuses on two specific postures, Gomukhāsana and Ardha Matsyendrāsana, and it's open to yoga teachers, trainees, and practitioners alike.
It's more of a deep dive than a regular class. Beene looks at the two postures through their traditional context, including the meaning of their names and the stories behind them. Gomukhasana takes its imagery from Gomukh, a sacred source of the Ganges, while the twist carries the name of the yogi Matsyendra. From there, the lab moves into the practical side: anatomy, alignment, preparation, progressions, sequencing, and the use of props. The afternoon wraps up with pranayama and meditation.
Beene owns the Lotus Pond Center and describes herself as a lifelong student of yoga. Her teaching emphasizes presence, physical alignment, prāṇāyāma, and meditation, and she often weaves her observations from nature into her work. For those working toward certification, the session offers YTT credit hours across techniques, teaching methodology, practicum, and anatomy.
