A morning concert by the Vincent Varvel Quartet featuring Leslie Craig, part of The Sheldon's Coffee Concert series.
The Vincent Varvel Quartet plays The Sheldon on Tuesday, November 3, as part of the venue's Coffee Concert series. It's a morning show, running from 10 AM to 11 AM, and it brings together two St. Louis regulars who've spent years working their way through the city's music scene. Varvel leads the quartet, and Leslie Craig joins in.
Varvel got his start while studying at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, freelancing with a string of St. Louis performers before touring the United States and Europe. Since then, he's played alongside the St. Louis Chamber Soloists, Chamber Project St. Louis, the Kingsbury Ensemble, and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He's recorded five albums as a leader, with Mystery Street coming out in 2023, and he's the Director of Guitar Studies at Washington University in St. Louis.
Leslie Craig has been a fixture of the city's scene since the 1980s. She co-founded the band Trixie Delight before moving to Nashville in 2005, where she recorded Wild Card and played the Ryman Auditorium with Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson, and Mel Tillis. She's been back in St. Louis since 2013 and fronts Leslie Craig and the Hellraisers.
