Regional premiere of Anna Ziegler's play The Janeiad, directed by Kim McKean, at Upstream Theater.
Upstream Theater is bringing The Janeiad to St. Louis from November 6 through 22, the regional premiere of Anna Ziegler's play. It's directed by Kim McKean and stars Jane Paradise, Chris Tipp, and Lizi Watt, all members of the Actors Equity Association.
If you know The Odyssey, you know the setup: Penelope waits twenty years for Odysseus to return home after the Trojan War, and when he finally does, the wait is rewarded. The Janeiad turns that on its head. It asks if the same holds true for Jane in modern-day Brooklyn, twenty years after her husband left for work one fateful September morning. It's a familiar story told from the other side of the door, and since it's the regional premiere, this is the first time it's being staged in the area.
