Free preschool storytelling session with songs, movement and storybooks to introduce young children to local history.
Storytelling in the Museum is back at the Missouri History Museum on Tuesday, October 27, from 10:30 to 11 AM. It's an in-person session for the preschool set, recommended for kids ages 2 to 6, and it runs most Tuesdays and Fridays during the same window. The session takes place in the History Clubhouse, inside the museum at 5700 Lindell Blvd in Forest Park.
It's a mix of songs, movement, traditional and contemporary storybooks, and local history. Each session has a different theme, so the kids get to learn something new about the world and pick up a love of reading along the way. It's designed for young children to come with their families and just engage with the stories together.
If you're looking for more, the museum runs a few other programs for families. There's History Exploration Days, a free program for homeschool families that happens one Friday a month from September to May, with interactive guided gallery tours, hands-on workshops, and community performances on topics like colonial St. Louis, baseball, Black history, and wildlife. They also run a free Summer Family Fun Series every Friday. The museum's continuing exhibits cover the 1904 World's Fair, the history of St. Louis, and Charles A. Lindbergh, with special exhibitions that change throughout the year.
