Halloween storytelling showcase with Emmy winner Bobby Norfolk and guests, with lighter tales, spooky stories, eerie poetry and songs for ages 12 and up.
Bobby Norfolk brings his Spooky Stories Halloween Storytelling Showcase to Power Creative on Thursday, October 29, from 7 PM to 9 PM. He's a St. Louis native and a three-time Emmy winner who's spent five decades in storytelling. He got his start on the local TV show Gator Tales, trained under Black Repertory Company founder Ron Himes, and later worked as a National Park Service rangerβa path that took him a long way from the childhood stutter he had to overcome. These days he performs at storytelling festivals across the country, relying on pacing, timing, and theatrical technique to draw listeners into what he describes as a hypnosis-like state. He's also spoken about how modern technological distractions have diminished children's active listening skills and powers of imagination.
The evening runs about two hours with an intermission. It opens with lighter material before settling into darker stories, and rounds out the tales with eerie poetry, a few spooky songs, and a bit of Halloween humor. Norfolk isn't on his own for this one: he's joined by guests Greg Carr, Beverly Brennan, Sherry Norfolk, and Ken Haller.
