A storytelling session for preschool children and families at the History Clubhouse, featuring songs, movement, and storybooks to support early literacy and social-emotional learning.
Storytelling in the Museum is back at the Missouri History Museum on Friday, October 16, and it's a regular thing you can keep coming back to. It runs most Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:30 to 11:00 AM in the History Clubhouse, so if you've got a preschooler and a free morning, it's an easy one to slot into your routine.
Each session is built around a different theme, which keeps it from feeling like the same thing every time. You'll see things like Grandparents Day, Disability History, baking, or homes around the world. A dedicated educator leads the whole thing, picking books that show a wide range of people and experiences—the kind of stories where kids can actually see themselves reflected. It's a mix of songs, movement, traditional and contemporary storybooks, and a bit of local history, all aimed at early literacy and the kind of social-emotional learning that fits the preschool age. The goal is simple: help young kids learn about their world and develop a genuine love of reading.
If you need it, ASL interpretation is available for the Friday sessions with two weeks' notice. And since you're already at the museum, you can make a full morning of it. The Missouri History Museum in Forest Park has permanent exhibits on the 1904 World's Fair, the history of St. Louis, and a Charles A. Lindbergh display, plus special exhibits that change throughout the year. You can hang out with the kids in the Clubhouse and then wander through the galleries afterward.
