Free screening of Buster Keaton's 1925 silent comedy 'Go West!' with a live original score by The Rats & People Motion Picture Orchestra.
The Rats & People Motion Picture Orchestra are taking over the Saint Louis Art Museum on Saturday, January 22, 2027, for a screening of Buster Keaton's Go West!. It's part of the SLAM Cinema series, and the whole thing runs from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Go West! is a 1925 silent comedy that follows a down-on-his-luck drifter nicknamed 'Friendless.' He heads west on a freight train and lands a job at a California cattle ranch, where he's completely out of his depth—he doesn't have a single cowboy skill to his name. Things change when he removes a painful pebble from the hoof of a cow named Brown Eyes; she gives him her undying loyalty, and he eventually ends up leading a herd of cattle right through the city. It's classic Keaton: a small, stubborn man against a world that's way too big for him, and the physical comedy still lands a century later.

The film runs about an hour and twenty-three minutes, and the whole thing is presented as a community event. The Rats & People Motion Picture Orchestra will be there in person, playing an original score live to the picture, so you're getting the music in the room rather than on a track. It's a free screening at the museum, from 6 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, January 22.
