Acoustic bluegrass improvisation concert by the Sam Grisman Project at The Sheldon, continuing the legacy of David 'Dawg' Grisman.
The Sam Grisman Project plays The Sheldon on Sunday, November 15, at 7 PM. It's a collective led by bassist and bandleader Sam Grisman, and the whole thing is built around the acoustic legacy of his father, the mandolinist, composer, and producer David 'Dawg' Grisman, and Grisman's close friend Jerry Garcia. They play in that tradition, recording acoustic instruments into condenser microphones to keep the stage sound fully acoustic and sensitive, and they're known for deeply attuned interplay and dynamic performances.
The lineup for this show is a rotating cast of musicians. On guitar, you'll find Max Flansburg, Logan Ledger, Sam Leslie, Henry Moser, Jesse Harper, and Jefferson Hamer. The mandolin is covered by Dominick Leslie, Joe K. Walsh, Matt Flinner, and Jesse Appelman. Victor Furtado is on clawhammer banjo, and the fiddle comes from John Mailander, Alex Hargreaves, Nate Leath, Shad Cobb, and Phoebe Hunt. Nat Smith is on cello, and Todd Livingston plays the Dobro. Over the years, the group has shared the stage with guests like David Grisman, John Sebastian, Tim O'Brien, Billy Strings, Maria Muldaur, and Margo Price, and they collaborate frequently with bluegrass pioneer Peter Rowan.
