Concert by the Chicago instrumental trio Russian Circles with special guest Primitive Man at Delmar Hall.
Russian Circles play Delmar Hall on Wednesday, November 4, with Primitive Man opening. It's an all-ages show, so you can bring whoever you want.
Russian Circles are a Chicago instrumental trio—drums, bass, and guitar—and they've put out seven studio albums. The ground they cover is wide: drone-heavy meditations, prog exercises, riff-fests, folk ballads, and noise rock. You can trace a shift across their discography, from the pensive, intricate melodies of Enter (2006) to the layered, distorted dirges of Blood Year (2019). Their latest album, Gnosis, moves away from that varied terrain and leans into the most tumultuous territory of their sound, which they say was shaped by the geography and isolation of the COVID era. The band is made up of Brian Cook, Mike Sullivan, and Dave Turncrantz.
One thing to keep in mind before you go: the venue's media policy allows no cameras, no audio, and no video. You'll have to leave the phone in your pocket and just listen.
