Ricky Skaggs and his bluegrass band Kentucky Thunder play holiday favourites, new arrangements and instrumentals in an acoustic style on his 2026 Christmas tour.
Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder are playing The Sheldon on Friday, December 18, as part of Skaggs' 2026 Christmas tour. It's one of twelve dates he's taking across the country this season, and the St. Louis stop is made possible with the support of Dr. Thomas & Cynthia Siler.
The show is played in an acoustic style, built around holiday favorites and new arrangements, with Kentucky Thunder instrumentals mixed in. There are also nightly sing-alongs, so it's a set that asks the room to join in rather than just sit and listen. If you've heard Skaggs before, this is a stripped-back version of the bluegrass and country sound he's known for.
For context, Skaggs is a fifteen-time GRAMMY winner, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry, and widely regarded as a pioneer of bluegrass and country music. He's been playing for more than 60 years and has released more than 30 albums. In 1997 he founded his own label, Skaggs Family Records, and he's published an autobiography, Kentucky Traveler. In 2020 he received the National Medal of Arts, the highest award given to artists by the U.S. government.
