Grammy Award winner Jon Cleary performs with his all-star big band, The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, as part of the venue's JAZZ series.
Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen play The Sheldon on Saturday, November 14, as part of the venue's jazz series. Cleary is a Grammy winner born in London and raised in New Orleans, and he's spent more than thirty-five years as a fixture of the Crescent City's music scene. He started out painting at the Maple Leaf Bar before moving into session work for New Orleans legends like Dr. John, Earl King, and Bonnie Raitt, and he took home a Grammy in 2015 for Go-Go Juice.
The Absolute Monster Gentlemen is the all-star big band he put together in his Bywater home studio. The project came out as The Bywater Sessions, which he co-produced with John Porter, who's worked with Roxy Music, The Smiths, and Taj Mahal. On stage, the band features Cornell Williams and A.J. Hall on bass and drums, horn players Aaron Narcisse and Charlie Halloran, and guitarist Xavier Lynn.
