Jazz concert featuring singer-songwriter Janet Evra joined by trumpeter and singer Bria Skonberg at The Sheldon.
Janet Evra is back at The Sheldon on Friday, December 4, this time bringing Bria Skonberg along for the evening. Evra is an Artist-in-Residence at The Sheldon, and she's a jazz singer-songwriter, vocalist, bassist, and bandleader who's played with Randy Brecker, Marcus Miller, Al Di Meola, Veronica Swift, Taylor Eigsti, and Wycliffe Gordon. For this show, she's adding trumpeter, singer, and songwriter Bria Skonberg to the mix.
Skonberg is a name that might be familiar if you've been following the hot jazz scene. The New York Times once described her as "the shining hope of hot jazz," and they broke down her sound in a way that tells you exactly what to expect: a clarion trumpet style indebted to Louis Armstrong, a smooth purr of a singing voice inspired by Anita O'Day, and the wholesome glow of youth. Between Evra's work as a singer and bassist and Skonberg's trumpet and vocals, there's a lot of ground for them to cover on one stage.
