Free screening of the 1980 comedy '9 to 5', introduced by the St. Louis Democratic Socialists of America, with no tickets required.
Arkadin Cinema & Bar is showing 9 to 5 on Monday, November 2, at 7 PM. The screening is presented by the St. Louis Democratic Socialists of America, who'll introduce the film before it starts.
9 to 5 came out in 1980 as a social comedy about three working women—Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton—who team up to take revenge on their worst and most sexist boss, played by Dabney Coleman. It's a razor-sharp satire on the institutional and interpersonal misogyny of American corporate life, and it's powered by Parton's timeless title theme. For Parton, it was her movie debut, and she holds her own alongside Fonda and Tomlin. Critic Egregious called it "an absolute delight of working class rage," which sums up the movie's energy pretty well.
The St. Louis Democratic Socialists of America are the ones bringing it to the screen, and they'll be there to introduce the film before the lights go down. The movie itself is a classic of the era, and seeing it in a theater with a crowd is a different experience than watching it at home.
