Dog-friendly day at The St. Louis Wheel when leashed dogs ride the observation wheel for free with their ticketed owners, with costumes encouraged.
The St. Louis Wheel is opening its gondolas to dogs on Thursday, October 29, from 12 PM to 9 PM. It's the only day of the year when four-legged passengers can ride, and dogs go free with their ticketed humans.
For those who haven't been, the Wheel is a 200-foot observation wheel at St. Louis Union Station, a National Historic Landmark and one of the city's main spots for family-friendly outings and seasonal celebrations. It has 42 gondolas, and they're kept at a steady 72 degrees all year, so your dog stays comfortable on the ride regardless of the weather. From the top, you get a 20-mile view of the St. Louis skyline.
Since it's a themed day, there's a bit more to it than just the ride. Owners are encouraged to dress their dogs in costumes to pose with the Pirates and Pumpkins on display. Dogs need to be leashed while in the Plaza and on the Wheel, and water bowls are available on the Purina Performance Plaza. There are also free treats for the dogs while supplies last.
