The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Wilbur Lin, plays country music hits in new symphonic arrangements by Jeff Tyzik.
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is bringing a night of country hits to Powell Hall on Friday, May 21, 2027. The program is titled Country Hits: Songs from Nashville, and it's a co-production of Schirmer Theatrical, LLC and Greenberg Artists. The concert was originally scheduled for June 7, 2026, but was moved to this new date.
The music comes from the songbooks of country legends like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash, alongside more recent chart-toppers from Kacey Musgraves, Tim McGraw, and The Chicks. It's a wide range of eras in one set, and the whole thing is performed in brand-new symphonic arrangements by Grammy Award winner Jeff Tyzik. The SLSO takes these familiar songs and builds them out for a full orchestra, so you'll hear them differently than you do on the radio.
Conducting the orchestra is Wilbur Lin, with vocals from Rick Brantley and Grace Leer. They're joined by a small band that fills in the country sound: Max Sadler on guitar, banjo, and mandolin; Bryan Dawley on bass guitar; Ross McReynolds on drums; and Lindsey Miller on guitar and steel guitar. Between the orchestra and the band, the night covers both the symphonic side and the traditional country instrumentation.
