Grammy-winning jazz luminaries Dianne Reeves and Branford Marsalis come together to celebrate the music of John Coltrane.
Dianne Reeves and Branford Marsalis are playing The Sheldon on Sunday, October 18, at 7 PM. The night is a tribute to John Coltrane, and the lineup is Reeves with the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Both are Grammy-winning jazz musicians, and they're coming together to look back at a century of sound that Coltrane helped shape.
The set focuses on Coltrane's 1963 collaboration with vocalist Johnny Hartman, so you'll hear that particular pairing of voice and saxophone. Around that, they'll pull in a selection of the saxophonist's classics. It's a program that pairs a specific, celebrated record with a broader look at his work.
The concert is presented by The Sheldon in partnership with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, though the symphony's musicians aren't performing. The Sheldon is a nonprofit arts organization in the Grand Center Arts District that's been a local cultural hub since it opened in 1912. It connects the city through music and art, bringing acclaimed artists to the region and running STEAM programs, an All-Star Chorus, and an instrument donation program called REPLAY.
