Concert by singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah as part of The Sheldon Folk series.
Amythyst Kiah plays The Sheldon on Friday, November 6, as part of the venue's Folk series. She's a Tennessee-born singer-songwriter on Rounder Records who started writing her first song on a Fender acoustic at thirteen.
Her 2021 album Wary + Strange earned a Grammy nomination for the anthem "Black Myself" and made Rolling Stone's list of the 25 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2021. Her third full-length, Still + Bright (2023), was produced by Butch Walker and recorded at his Nashville studio. That record looks toward Eastern philosophies, spiritual traditions, and the natural world, with guest vocals from S.G. Goodman and Billy Strings.
Beyond her solo work, Kiah has played in the all-women-of-color supergroup Our Native Daughters alongside Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla, and Allison Russell, and has written with Tim Armstrong. She describes her own upbringing as that of an "anime-nerd mall goth."
